Finally found some mountains!

8/21

After leaving our spot in Kanarado we worked our way west through Colorado. We wanted to try to get more miles under our wheels so we managed to get across most of CO and landed in a great overnight spot near Grand Junction. We drove past copper Mountain and Vail which was strange to see without any snow. There was so much scenery to take in just along the drive that I didn’t get any blogging done that whole time!

I have to admit I was super proud of my “shotgun” find for our place to stay last night. We ended up at a place called Saddlehorn campground just before sunset and the switchback climb getting up there was definitely a good prep for what I would endure the next day (stay tuned for that update next!) And it also created amazing panoramic view opportunities of the surrounding area. We parked and took a stroll led by the boss (Dash) and then sat outside and enjoyed a surprisingly bug free evening listening to music before quiet hours at 10pm. We then made a pact that we needed to be better about getting up and out of places so we managed to do just that and even after a camp side breakfast and coffee got on our way around 8:30am.

That was this morning! But it seems like 2 days ago. Next stop was hitting Moab UT and the Shafer trail and switchbacks. Oh boy is all I’ll say in foreshadowing of THAT experience!
